*This is the first of a new (hopefully) weekly posting about the Most Kick Ass Thing I Ate Last Week. Although I am not asked as much about "The Best Thing I Ever Ate" as the Food Network personalities, from time to time people do request I tell them "something awesome you ate recently." Thus, this post is born. Some of the items, like this week's, will be repeat offenders on Unemployed Eater, but if that's the most kick ass thing I ate last week, then, well, it's going up! Thanks.*
Week of: April 15-21, 2012
Restaurant: Hole in the Wall Burger Joint (The "Santa Monica"/West LA Location)
Address: 11058 Santa Monica Blvd (at South Bentley Avenue, behind Winchell's)
The Kick Ass Thing: 8 oz Turkey Burger on Pretzel Bun w/ Chipotle Mayo, Provolone Cheese, Tomato and Avocado. Side of Sweet Potato Fries w/ sides of "Our Ketchup" and homemade ranch.
Cost: $8.95 (turkey burger) + $1.00 (avocado) + $2.75 (sweet potato fries) = $12.70
Note: Pretty much the only place in town where I ALWAYS order the turkey burger - truly something special. The same can be said for the sweet potato fries. The icing atop the cake though is definitely the wonderful pretzel bun, probably LA's best burger bun.
Annoying: Cash only (but there's an ATM inside); not as cheap as once was; parking can be difficult at busy lunch hours.
Love that turkey burger at Hole in the Wall. They get a great crust on the patty, which is well seasoned. I actually prefer it with a brioche bun -- the pretzel tends to be too brittle and a little unwieldy.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I assume you've tried the Green Bird at Umami? That's another place where I pretty much always order the turkey burger because it's so damned good. I would actually rate it ahead of Hole in the Wall's.
Hmmm... I don't think I've had the Green Bird. It's really hard for me to sway away from the namesake at Umami, but I will definitely try the turkey burger next time. Thanks for the rec. And, even more so, thanks for checking out UE.
