The Most Kick Ass Thing I Ate Last Week: Philly Cheese Chicken and a small Caesar Salad (Victor Jr's)

Week Of: May 6 - May 12, 2012
Restaurant: Victor Jr's
Address: 10113 Washington Blvd, Culver City (across the street from Sony)
The Kick Ass Thing: Philly Cheese Chicken w/ a small Caesar Salad ("with croutons" -- they ask)
Cost: $7.95 (sandwich) + $4.50 (salad) = $12.45
Thoughts: I consider Victor Jr's my LA comfort food. Whenever I'm feeling a little dour or simply just necessitating a satisfying and filling meal, I make the drive to Culver City for a Philly Cheese Chicken and a small Caesar Salad. In fact, while interning at Sony back in college my fellow interns took me there for my birthday lunch... and I've had Vic Jr's for every work birthday lunch since (sans one year when I was stuck in, ugh, Manhattan Beach). There's nothing incredibly special about the place -- in fact, the pizza is actually pretty subpar -- but they make a solid Philly chicken cheesesteak with thinly sliced chunks of chicken breast, grilled onions and a crap load of cheese on a soft Italian roll. The Caesar Salad is also delectable with a very creamy homemade dressing. I recommend you ask for it "tossed" with "croutons." Sure, you just added a hundred plus calories, but it's certainly worth it.
Awesome: Victor Jr's is two doors down from (and shares a parking lot with) The Conservatory, a coffee shop I can never boast too much about.
Annoying: Not open Sundays - often the only day I find time to make it out that way.

  1. Agree completely about Victor Jr.'s -- really good place, with very friendly staff. They do a good meatball sub, a great eggplant parm, but my favorite since I discovered it is the Italian beef -- tender, rich, plentiful beef (I think it is brisket) served with a cup of the cooking liquid to dip.
