The Most Kick Ass Thing I Ate Last Week - Meatball Sub (Giuliano's Delicatessen and Bakery)

Week Of: May 13 - May 19, 2012
Address: 1138 Gardena Blvd., Gardena (off the 110)
The Kick Ass Thing: Meatballs and Mozzarella on a Medium-Sized Soft Sourdough Roll (assembled at home)
Cost: About $4.00 (sourdough roll, meatballs, sauce and cheese all from Giuliano's)
Thoughts: A few months back my girlfriend dragged me along for a Sam's Club visit - she used the old "it would be good for you to get out of the house" excuse. I fell for it. What I did not know though is that Sam's Club is located in the Torrance outskirts. Even though I ate right before we got in the car, by the time we arrived at the grocery warehouse my hunger once again made an appearance. After quickly surveying the Sam's Club food court options -- which, by the way, pale in comparison to Costco's offerings -- I typed in "best sandwich" and the area code into Google. Some place called Giuliano's in neighboring Gardena popped up. In order to appease me, the lady friend agreed to stop by after we finished shopping. And we've been loyal fans ever since. Gardena's answer to Bay Cities, the sixty-plus-year-old Giuliano's offers fine Italian deli fare, fresh pastas and THE BEST BREAD ROLL SELECTION IN LOS ANGELES. Italian rolls, sourdough rolls, ciabatta rolls - in all shapes and sizes, all with incredibly affordable Gardena prices. On on our most recent Sam's Club run, we stopped by Giuliano's to pick up the components of the wonderfully delicious meatball sub you see above. Sweet sauce, scrumptious meatballs and fine mozzarella all on a fresh and chewy sourdough roll.
Awesome: All meats, sauces, pasta salads, etc. cost at least a dollar less than Bay Cities.
Annoying: You may have to go to Sam's Club with your girlfriend first. Also, Gardena is not around the corner. From anyone.
