Restaurant: Manhattan Beach Post
Address: 1142 Manhattan Avenue, Manhattan Beach
The Kick Ass Thing: Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuit (w/ maple butter)
Price: $5 (for two)
Thoughts: The Manhattan Beach dining scene has always been a bit of a conundrum. How could such a beautiful, affluent area possess such a ho-hum restaurant collection? For years, the city just seemed primed for a breakout dining destination. MB Post is just that - the first restaurant worth driving south for. I've been to MB Post three times in the past couple months and I can say with complete sincerity EVERYTHING IS AWESOME. No letdowns. Not on the dinner menu, not on the brunch menu. All homeruns, or at least stand-up triples. With so many noteworthy dishes, it's hard to believe a simple biscuit could shine, but Post's Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuit is something special. The decadent biscuit, layered with bacon and cheddar chunks, also comes with a heavenly maple butter spread. I haven't had a biscuit in the South in a while, but I can't imagine any version being more delectable.
Awesome: Everything.
Annoying: The place is so hot right now. With the parents in town last month we had to settle for a 9 p.m. Wednesday night reservation.
