Most Kick Ass Thing I Ate Last Week: Cajun Turkey and Havarti Sandwich (Domenico's)

Week Of: 8/12/12 - 8/18/12
Address: 682 Hartz Avenue, Danville, Northern California
The Kick Ass Thing: Cajun Turkey and Havarti Sandwich on Sweet Italian Roll with Onions, Tomatoes, Balsamic Vinegar and Pesto Mayo
Price: $8.75
Thoughts: Growing up in Danville, I had this sandwich almost every day after school. At Domenico's you build your own sandwich and I had put together this combination one day and simply could not get myself to ever order something different. The sandwich and I became so ubiquitous in fact that after I mentioned it in an article for the local newspaper they named the sandwich after me. For a beautiful six months I could simply walk into Domenico's, ask for the 'Metz Special,' and a few minutes later, there was this splendiferous combo of slightly spicy turkey, havarti, pesto mayo and balsamic on a Sweet Italian roll. Sadly due to the sandwich shop's constant employee turnover, sandwich makers began to look at me funny because they had no idea what I was talking about when I requested my special. Despite no longer being the namesake, to this day I order the same sandwich every time I return home and this past week was no different. It really is a superb sandwich - maybe my favorite anywhere. This despite the fact that it features the rather boring Boar's Head turkey as its base. Domenico's though, like Bay Cities here in SoCal, pumps out great sandwiches despite their average BH meats. Locally baked rolls, fresh vegetables and housemade spreads really continue to make Domenico's a special sandwich spot.
Awesome: This sandwich rocked after Honors Trig class. And still does today.
Annoying: I don't get up to Danville nearly enough.

  1. Oh my...

BTW, have you tried Genova in West Oakland?

Also, have you done a post about your top-10 sandwiches?

    1. Never been to Genova. Will try to check it out next time I'm up north.

The top 10 sandwich post is something I've started many times, but never completed. Hopefully some time before the end of the year.

      Thanks for reading!
