An Open Letter to M Street Kitchen

3RD UPDATE (6/2/14) - We. Win. M Street has updated their Happy Hour Menu! I repeat, M Street has made some changes during HH! As well as their other menus.

2ND UPDATE (1/27/14) - Received an email from Lettuce Entertain You, the corporate owners of M Street Kitchen. They informed me to expect changes/additions to the Happy Hour menu in the very near future. They also promised an invitation to come try the new offerings when they hit the menu. File this under: success.

UPDATE (1/24/14) - On 1/10/14 M Street Kitchen Direct Messaged me on Twitter requesting my email to discuss the following. I immediately wrote back. Still awaiting a return. Worry not, we will make this happen!
---------------------

Dear M Street Kitchen -

First, let me start off by saying I really enjoy your Happy Hour. Your chicken nachos are the cat's pajamas. The bee's knees. The duck's nuts. No doubt somewhere in heaven Senor Nacho is smiling down on them. I thoroughly enjoy heaving them down my gullet half-priced any day of the week between 4 and 6:30 p.m. It also doesn't suck that you offer your burger, sushi and beers on tap at discounted rates during truly the happiest two and a half hours of my day.

That said, I HATE your Happy Hour. Totally loathe it. At this point, I can barely even look it in the eye. It's the village bicycle and EVERYONE (plus their Mom) has had a ride. You've been on Santa Monica's Main Street for four years now and rather even slightly alter the Happy Hour menu, you've basically stuck with it like some sick dog you're afraid to put down. Actually that's not entirely true: a few years back you made the menu SMALLER (Miso-Glazed Salmon Roll, I cry for thee). While it's still quite tasty and the lack of transition may go unnoticed by many, my friends and I are proud Main Street denizens. We live in the area. We hang out in the area. We Happy Hour in the area. More often than not, we Happy Hour at M Street. Thus, more often than not, we're stuck dealing with the ever lasting menu monotony. It's like a pumpkin on the front stoop months after Halloween.

You'd be hard pressed to find someone who enjoys racking up Lettuce Entertain You points more than this guy, but I would be lying if I didn't say that your HH selections (or lack thereof) have begun to take a toll on my decision-making. Often I find myself considering all my other options first, than settling for M Street. When you first came around, it was the complete opposite. Let be known: I'm not requesting a complete overhaul; just a few additions. You offer a wide array of sandwiches on your regular lunch menu - maybe add one or two of them to the HH menu. Maybe a salad? Hell, a taco option? I'm just spitballing here, but you catch the gist. It's 2014, a new year, a year to try something new, a year ideal for a new Happy Hour menu.

Sincerely,
Mike

P.S. Please don't revoke my silver LEY card status because of this. Cheers.

  1. Another change to their happy hour services....they changed the happy hours from 5p-7p to 4p-6:30p (boo!) and completely deleted the late night happy hour....9-11p (double boo!). I miss that late night happy hour.

  2. I've definitely slowed my roll at M Street because I've tried everything on the menu :( I've been bouncing to other Main Street restaurants in the past year because of it. STILL LOVE THE NACHITOS THOUGH!

  4. Big changes to the HH menu in March of 2015 - bud light and house beer are the only beer offerings on HH special - sushi rolls gone from all menus not just HH
